RFK Bridge reopens after morning closures following fatal crash

The Robert F. Kennedy Bridge fully reopened to traffic late Thursday morning following closures stemming from a fatal car crash, city officials said.

Traffic stalled on the bridge around 4 a.m. and continued until just before 8:30 a.m., causing congestion on nearby roads as well.

Police said that around 3:50 a.m., a gray Chrysler traveling northbound collided with the rear of a construction vehicle, ejecting the 55-year-old male driver.

He was transported to NYC Health + Hospitals/Elmhurst, where he was pronounced dead, according to police. The ongoing investigation led to the closure of all lanes on the bridge until 6 a.m., when only one southbound lane was opened.
