Australian radio presenter, Matty Acton, has shocked listeners by revealing that he has become a grandad at the age of 37.
Known for his successful breakfast radio show, and previous work on prominent stations like the Sunshine Coast, Gold Coast, and Sydney’s 2Day FM, Matty delighted fans by revealing he had become a grandfather live on air.
The host revealed the exciting news to his B105 breakfast co-hosts Stav Davidson and Abby Coleman on Tuesday morning in a fun way as they discussed the sweepstake they made to guess when the baby might be born.
Abby asked Matty what his guess might be, reminding him that the due date was October 5.
‘I am going to guess the 30th of September,’ Matty said.
‘That’s yesterday,’ Stav replied incredulously before Abby connected the dots and said excitedly: ‘Have you had the baby already?’
‘She was born last night,’ Matty confirmed as the recording studio erupted into laughter and excitement as they labelled the host a ‘granddaddy.’
On social media, Matty shared images of the family meeting the newest member and captioned the sweet collection of images: ‘Welcome to the family Illyria Fay Acton 👶🏻 We love & adore you.’
Fans couldn’t quite believe that the presenter was a grandad before he hit 40 and rushed to the comments to congratulate him – and explain their confusion.
‘Congratulations to all! But how the hell are you a Grandpa? I thought you were 30-something!’ said Tashearlgrey.
‘Hang on… Grandpa? The math ain’t mathing🥴😅’ said rachel_jerram.
‘You’re a grandpa????? But you’re like 30!!!!’ commented Saraiiisparklesmeow.
Matty met his wife Esther when he was 18 and she was 22. She had a son named Ethan from a previous relationship and Matty has Ethan as his own since he was just three years old.
The couple met when he was doing his first-ever radio job in Toowoomba and had two more children together.
The pair share younger children Xander, 10, and Eden, seven, who will be closer in age to their niece than they are to their half-brother Ethan who is 23.
