Qrion Announces New Album ‘We Are Always Under The Same Sky’ | News | Clash Magazine Music News, Reviews & Interviews

Austin-based producer and DJ Qrion (real name Momiji Tsukada) has announced the release of her second album, ‘We Are Always Under The Sky’, out January 17th via Anjunadeep.

The ten-track album follows 2021 debut full-length, ‘I Hope It Lasts Forever‘, and is teased with new single ‘Hush My Heart’, co-created with Joseph Ashworth. Buoyed by sprightly arpeggios and vocalist Josie Man’s cool, processed vocals, the smooth house track is the perfect pick-me-up.

Of the inspiration behind the number, Momiji says: “As many of my fans know, my first album was about past memories and old family moments. This track feels like a response to that. I love creating original arpeggio melodies, and I often use them in my songs. But in this track, the arpeggios feel like I’m overcoming the past and slowly rising above it. I kept the track airy, but it still has energetic breakbeats to make it danceable. Listening to this song makes me feel so warm. I’m just so happy with where I am right now, able to express my true feelings without any substances. These last two years have had their ups and downs, but I’ve finally reached a point where I feel mentally stable. I hope this song will also be something that lifts you up. It might sound cheesy, but I just want you all to feel that we can become better people if we really try.”

Qrion imbues the theme of rebirth and regeneration on her new album, a cerebral, emotionally-resonant dance record exploring her struggles with addiction and the aftermath of her father’s passing. The album also centers female and non-binary Southeast Asian talent, with features from the aforementioned British-Kongese singer Josie Man and Paris-based, South Korean multi-hyphenate DIDI HAN.
