Pedestrian killed after driver loses control flips and ploughs into a pole at Coopers Plains, Brisbane


A female pedestrian has been killed after being struck by a car that veered off the road and flipped into a telegraph pole. 

The woman died at the scene of the crash on Kessels Road in Coopers Plains, south of Brisbane, at about 4.50am on Thursday. 

She suffered critical injuries and couldn’t be saved despite the effort of paramedics. 

The 19-year-old male driver was taken to Princess Alexandra Hospital in a stable condition with non-life threatening injuries. 

A QAS spokesperson said: ‘Multiple paramedics were called to a serious vehicle rollover into a pole on Riawena and Kessels Roads at 4.48am. 

‘One patient was transported to the Princess Alexandra Hospital in a stable condition, a second patient was assessed for life-threatening injuries at the scene.’

Both the driver and the pedestrian are yet to be identified by authorities. 

The westbound lanes at Kessel Road were closed with hour-long delays expected.

Diversions are in place with motorists advised to avoid the area. 

Investigations into the crash continue.
