A Townsend man facing charges in a fatal shooting in Fitchburg Sunday night surrendered to police early Monday morning, officials said.

Jarrod Hegarty, 32, is facing two counts of armed assault with intent to murder, assault and battery with a firearm, and possession of a firearm without a license, the Worcester County District Attorney’s Office said.

Two men were found with gunshot wounds by Fitchburg police at 360 Main Street around 6:40 p.m. Sunday, the DA said. Joshua Bell was transported with one gunshot wound to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to court documents.

The other man was shot multiple times and is in critical condition, according to court documents.

Hegarty was apprehended after police identified him as the alleged shooter through witnesses and a review of surveillance footage, court documents said. A witness told investigators that he was still in the Main Street building, and Hegarty surrendered himself to police just before 1 a.m. on Monday.

Hegarty appeared in Fitchburg District Court Monday and pleaded not guilty to all charges.
