ST. CLAIR SHORES, Mich. – A 55-year-old man from Macomb County is facing charges after reportedly threatening volunteers at an election tent.
According to authorities, Jason Lynch Lafond went to a Kamala Harris campaign tent located on Jefferson Avenue on Oct. 12 to look for Donald Trump campaign materials. He then allegedly shouted slurs at the volunteers — including homophobic ones — and said that Trump would “exterminate” people like them when he wins.
He then reportedly got into his vehicle and accelerated toward the volunteers, who had to jump out of the way of the speeding vehicle.
The St. Clair Shores Police Department identified Lafond and took him into custody. He was charged Thurdsay, Oct. 31, with three counts of assault with a dangerous weapon and three counts of ethnic intimidation.
His bond was set at $50,000. Lafond is expected to return to court for a probable cause hearing Nov. 8.
