Live: Fast-starting Wallabies pegged back by All Blacks in blistering first half

Live updates: All Blacks vs Wallabies

56′ Over dive the All Blacks!

Tamaiti Williams it is who finishes things off.

It was another case of being patient, as the Wallabies defence swarmed and the All Blacks had to show patience again going forward.

And in the end, Tamaiti Williams had simply too much power with the pick and go under the posts.

The kick is good and it’s 26-13 – a long way back from here for the Wallabies.

54′ Penalty New Zealand

Wow, more brilliant defence – eventually – from the Wallabies.

Will Jordan, slippery as an eel, broke the line and put the All Blacks into the 22.

The All Blacks battered down the left side, but the Wallabies defence held firm.

The visitors wanted a turnover, the All Blacks won a penalty for not rolling away.

The All Blacks will go for the corner.

52′ Patient defence from the Wallabies pays off

Wow, another mistake from the All Blacks, but brilliant defence from the Wallabies.

The All Blacks have been able to cut through at will, but Kellaway and Pietsch have both stepped up here to win some dominance at the tackle.

They led the defence on the outside, but were backed up by every member in gold inside them as the All Blacks were forced to keep hold of the ball for phase after phase.

It was a case of who will blink first, and it was the All Blacks who did, Rieko Ioane knocking on.

Jury is still out

Hoping the wonderful Wallabies continue playing in the 2nd half and keep the woeful wannabes at bay…

This game is chaos.

50′ Chaos in Wellington

I can’t even keep up with the turnovers here, so I’ll stick with the last and, coincidentally, most hilarious one.

Sam Cane does brilliantly to win a penalty after the All Blacks just fail to recover a chip and chase in behind the line.

The penalty is given.

But TJ Perenara tries to take it quickly, drops it, and then tries to convince the referee that he didn’t really mean to try and take it early.

No dice, it’s a Wallabies scrum.

47′ Andrew Kellaway the pickpocket

Brilliant from Andrew Kellaway.

TJ Perenara took off and raced towards the left sideline.

Andrew Kellaway was there, and picked his pocket as the Kiwi scrum half tried to get rid of it.

46′ Wallabies get away with one

Oh no.

Dylan Pietsch tries the kick ahead, but puts it right into the chest of Will Jordan!

He gathers and races back down the pitch, kicking ahead but dead in goal.

Huge let off for the Wallabies.

45′ Wallabies penalty

Codie Taylor uses his hands to steal the ball after a Beauden Barrett so the Wallabies get a penalty.

43′ Inconsistent Wallabies decision-making

Wallabies show some more inventiveness.

And then kick a poor grubber straight into the hands of Will Jordan, who puts the All Blacks back on the front foot.

The All Blacks show then Wallabies what a good kick in behind actually looks like where Wright does just enough to win the ball from Jordan.

42′ Tyrel Lomax drops it cold

Oh that’s a poor error from the ball-carrying prop.

You’d expect him to gather those and eat them up.

Meanwhile, Wallabies number three Taniela Tupou, who stuffered that knee injury in the first half, is now down nursing a shoulder.

He will pack this scrum, but Allan Alaalatoa is ready to come on.

41′ The play is back underway in the second half

The Wallabies are still in this contest.

But these counter-attack scores from the All Blacks need to be stopped if they are to secure a first win in this stadium since 2000.

The All Blacks kick things off and the Wallabies gather.

This is a cracking contest.

The Wallabies are playing with real intent and bravery.

They are moving the ball from deep, attacking the All Blacks from all angles, even from well inside their own half.

Granted, some poor errors from the All Blacks are hindering them, but a lot of that is down to the pressure being put on them by the Wallabies.

However, when the All Blacks are attacking the defence looks a little bit vulnerable.

Some of the Wallabies’ missed tackles feel like they are very isolating, while the All Blacks are getting away with more because of they way they defend in packs.

The hosts are, as a result, brutally punishing the Wallabies for their lapses.

40+1′ Try All Blacks!

Finished with aplomb from the All Blacks, who retake the lead just before the break!

What a lovely line from Caleb Clarke.

The Wallabies did everything to stop the maul, hammering into the slow mass of black shirts, before Tupou is pinged for hauling it down.

The All Blacks then spread the ball from left to right, wonderful offloads and brave attacking lines, all ends with a lovely short pass to Clarke who dives over.

The kick is good, the score 19-13.

40′ Penalty All Blacks

Two options for the All Blacks, a penalty in front of the posts, or one out to the side.

A brave call sees the hosts forgo the three points and go for the try!

36′ Penalty Wallabies

A long, long advantage from the referee there.

The Wallabies though are on fire in attack.

Rob Valetini hammers into the All Blacks line – and you know it was a big shot when the entire New Zealand crowd groans in something approaching appreciation.

Then he does it again. Brilliant carries from the flanker.

Will Jordan and Rieko Ioane both do well to hold the ball up.

But the penalty stands and Lolesio kicks the points.

It’s 13-12.

33′ Wallabies penalty!

Superb again from Taniela Tupou.

He is the Tongan Thor. Perhaps it should be the Tongan Hulk. You wouldn’t like him when he’s angry, and that knee injury appears to have fired him up.

Angus Bell has to take some credit for that though, he dominated Tyrel Lomax there.

32′ Harry Wilson earns the turnover!

What a shot from Harry Wilson!

He has dislodged the ball from his opposite number Ardie Savea.

This intent from the Wallabies has been driven by Harry Wilson, pushing forward with his fellow backrow forwards Fraser McReight and Rob Valetini.

A very impressive stint so far.

29′ Kept in by Pietsch!

What a peach from Dylan!

He’s done incredibly well to keep that ball in play!

The Wallabies are really not letting this misfiring All Black side settle at all.

29′ All Blacks penalty

Interesting.

The All Blacks get the decision for a no arms tackle from Taniela Tupou.

But then Barrett’s chip and chase while under advantage ends with him walloping Len Ikitau in the chops.

The first act of foul play gets penalised through, so it’s the All Blacks that kick for touch.
