One of the stars of The Great Pottery Throw Down has revealed that she decided to leave the show as it ‘wasn’t worth it for her’ anymore.

Ever since it began airing in 2015, it’s been hailed as one of the most heartwarming shows on television, following a group of amateur potters as they take part in a creative and captivating competition.

Now airing on Channel 4 after originally launching on the BBC, one of the standout stars of the TV series is technician Rose Schmits, who joined in 2022.

Rose, who describes herself as the ‘trans kiln witch’, oversaw the potters’ work as it was fired in the kiln, and quickly became a fan-favourite among viewers.

In a new update, The Great Pottery Throw Down announced that she would be leaving the programme after four seasons in her role.

‘A massive thank you to Rose who is leaving the show after four series as our kiln technician,’ a statement read.

‘Rose has fired everything from gluggle jugs to toilets for our brilliant potters and done her utmost to protect their pieces from the kiln gods.

‘We wish you and your brilliant bow ties the very best for the future.’

Rose then responded to the message on X, clarifying with The Great Pottery Throw Down fans that it was entirely her decision to step down.

‘This was fully my decision by the way they did want me back but it just wasn’t worth it for me anymore,’ she wrote.

In a follow-up tweet, she hit out at transphobes who had targeted her online, stating: ‘So get rekt all you transphobes you had absolutely nothing to do with it 😘.’

Several fans expressed their sadness over Rose leaving the show, while others wished her luck for the future.

‘Oh such a shame. I loved Rose. 🌹 all the best,’ Donna wrote on Instagram.

‘Good luck Rose in the next bit of your adventure, you will be hugely missed by pottery throw down fans I’m sure x,’ an account called @knittingtwist added.

A viewer going by the handle @thegreytgonzo also shared: ‘This is a real shame, there are already too few tv peeps who speak out against transphobia. Sorry to see you go Rose, but looking forward to seeing what you do next.’

‘Thank you Rose for being you and for being such a positive role model for our community xx,’ @brookwoodpottery commented.

On her Instagram account, where she has more than 72,000 followers, Rose regularly shares pictures of her incredible creations, including her magnetising tentacle pots.

The Great Pottery Throw Down is available to watch on Channel 4.
