Fresh faced Natalie Portman joins Barbie director Greta Gerwig as they meet the cast of play What We Talk About When We Talk About Anne Frank in London

Natalie Portman joined Barbie director Greta Gerwig for a performance of What We Talk About When We Talk About Anne Frank at the Marylebone Theatre in London on Monday.

The Black Swan star, 43, went fresh faced and looked effortlessly stylish in a long wool coat which she layered over jeans and a pair of comfy trainers. 

Meanwhile Greta, 41, wore a chic olive green trench over a crisp white shirt with black sweater and matching trousers.

The duo appeared together in 2016’s Jackie where Natalie starred as  Jacqueline Kennedy, while Greta played her social secretary Nancy Tuckerman.

Natalie recently gushed over her pal telling L’Officiel USA: ‘I’d love to work with Greta Gerwig as a director. I’ve worked with her several times as an actress.’

The play is based on a 2012 short story collection by the American writer Nathan Englander and was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction.

Directed by Patrick Marber it stars West Wing and Big Bang Theory actor Joshua Malina.

Last month Natalie Portman received the 2024 Talent Award at the Deauville American Film Festival in France.

The Academy Award-winning actress attended the glamorous occasion in the wearing a stunning textured number complete with puffy sleeves.

The black-and-silver outfit was emblazoned with a dramatic pattern across the bodice area.

Natalie accessorised with a black belt around her cinched middle and styled the whole thing out with an abstract choker around her neck.

Natalie was at the ceremony to receive the gong  from French acting legend Isabelle Adjani, 69, and the pair posed together with the new accolade.

The actress started her career when she was spotted by an agent at a pizza restaurant by chance.

She got her big break alongside Britney Spears when they were chosen to serve as understudies for future theatre star Laura Bell Bundy in the Off-Broadway musical Ruthless! in 1992.

Her film debut came in the form of playing a young protégée in 1994’s Léon: The Professional opposite future Harry Potter star Gary Oldman.

After playing the title role of the tragic Holocaust victim in an acclaimed run of The Diary of Anne Frank on Broadway as a teenager, she was cast as Padmé Amidala in Star Wars.

Her transition into adult stardom came with roles in Closer, Black Swan and Jackie and the award served as a recognition of her longevity in Hollywood.

When it was announced that the My Blueberry Nights star had been chosen for the honour, bosses of the festival noted that her versatility was the reason behind it.

A rep said: ‘All of these roles are marked by her ambivalent presence, a blend of strength and fragility ‘

‘Throughout her journey, she has been able to prove her ability to portray all types of characters with depth and accuracy.’

Natalie was also given a dedicated beach locker room on the Promenade des Plances during the 50th anniversary of the film festival.

She opted for a smart suit as she posed by her new honour, which had been emblazoned with her name.
