If games that involve cause-and-effect storytelling, tension-building sequences and an epic score are your bag, the latest instalment of Life Is Strange should be on your ‘Play-Next’ list.

Life Is Strange: Double Exposure brings back original protagonist, Max Caulfield, as she deals with the sudden death of her best friend, Safi. Fans that’ve been following the game since its first release, would’ve met Max as an 18-year-old high school senior. Now, she’s navigating her way through life at Caledon University as a photographer-in-residence.

The first two chapters of the game, accessible by pre-ordering Double Exposure’s Ultimate Edition, were released on October 15 with the rest to follow in just a few days. October 29 is the big day, so mark your calendars.

True to format, Double Exposure brings back the thrill of Life Is Strange’s well-known murder mystery gameplay with a supernatural twist. This time around, it’s all about shifting timelines to help Max find her friend’s killer. Not sure what to expect? Well, I picked up some insight from the franchise’s fans to help give you an idea.

Zara Meier, a horror and thriller game enthusiast who has played both the original Life Is Strange and follow up sequel, described the series as an “emotional rollercoaster”. Each instalment has been eerie, in the best way, with storytelling that gets your heart racing. According to her, “every decision counts” and it’s all about the butterfly effect. A groundbreaking premise during it’s initial release.

Another fan and avid action, adventure and horror gamer, Bryce Webster has taken on all versions of the game, except True Colours. His favourite — Life Is Strange 2 — was described as visually gorgeous with a captivating soundtrack. He especially loved the diner scene from the OG, that prompted players to predict the future.
