HARRIS COUNTY, Texas – Law enforcement and family members have identified a teenager who was shot and killed as he drove to pick up his girlfriend Friday night.

The Harris County Sheriff’s Office said the deadly shooting happened around 8 p.m. Friday night in the 23600 block of the Katy Freeway on the westbound service road, near the Grand Parkway.

Family members say 19-year-old Cody Johnson was on his way to Katy to pick up his girlfriend when he was shot.

Deputies responded to the scene and found Johnson outside his parked car, unresponsive with gunshot wounds. He was flown by helicopter to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Johnson’s family said he lived in Missouri City and graduated from Ridge Point High School in the spring. He was supposed to start his new job on Tuesday. He also had a black Camaro that he loved.

The Harris County Sheriff’s Office said the shooting may have stemmed from a road rage incident. Detectives do not have a description of the shooter, but are asking anyone with any information to come forward.

Crime Stoppers is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to an arrest in this case.

KPRC 2′s Corley Peel is speaking with the family and will have more on their pleas to help find the person responsible tonight at 10.
