HOUSTON – Scattered showers and storms are possible over the next week. Check out our current radar below:

Tonight’s Forecast:

Tonight will be cloudy and warm with temperatures in the mid-70s. We have a 20% chance of showers. We remain muggy.

Weekend Forecast:

The front unfortunately, stalls out this weekend which will keep some rainfall in our forecast on both Saturday and Sunday, but the total chances will be generally 20-30%. Highs climb to the mid-80s with mostly cloudy skies and humid conditions.

Time Change:

Don’t forget daylight saving time ends this weekend. Most devices will automatically change this for you, but ovens, microwaves, old cars, and wall clocks will need to be set back an hour before bed Saturday. 2AM becomes 1AM Sunday morning, which in theory gives us an extra hour of sleep. I say in theory because for this to occur you need to go to bed at the same time and wake up at the same time Friday and Saturday night. For example, if you go to bed at 10pm and wake up at 7am both nights you’ll get an extra hour of sleep. Since 2am happens twice Sunday you get an extra hour. This is also a good time to change the batteries on your smoke detectors and CO2 alarms.

Big changes for our sunrise and sunsets start Sunday. Early risers typically love this time change because our sunrise is in the 6AM hour starting Sunday. Sunset are an hour earlier near 5:30 PM.

Election Day:

We are tracking a cold front for the first work-week of November. Right now the timing looks to be late-Monday into Tuesday morning. This would bring rain chances for election day morning. This would also make the afternoon more pleasant with lower-humidity and highs in the mid-70s. 0

Timing on the front will really determine when we see rainfall on election day. If the front stalls out we could see rain chances through the entire day. For this reason, we’re keeping rain chances in through the afternoon. It does look like the heaviest rainfall would be in the morning.

Tropical Outlook:

Yes … we know. It’s fall and we should be done talking about the tropics! Well, for the most part, we will be! We’re in cold front season so most if not all tropical troubles will be blocked and thrown away from Texas. That said, the National Hurricane Center is projecting a 70% chance of some tropical development either this weekend or early next week.

Early long range models do try to slide something closer to the eastern end of the Gulf, but it’s a fools errand to say exactly where it will go and impacts. Bottom line is that we’ll track it over the weekend and you don’t worry about it! Fronts usually will block storms very late in the season and pull them away from the western end of the Gulf so we’ll see what the weekend tropical models show us.

10-day Forecast:

There is another cold front coming next week. The first one will move through on Election Day ramping up our rain chances and lowering temperatures a tad. We’re trying to bring in some actual fall colder weather and we may have a shot at some late next week.
