Stay safe from cyber tricks!

There’s a sneaky scam happening online that’s fooling people into thinking they’re in big trouble with the police! Here’s how it works: someone calls pretending to be from the police and accuses the person of a fake crime. They might say things like “Your ID number (Aadhaar) was used for illegal stuff” or “Someone made fake IDs with your phone number.” This can scare people because they think they’re going to be arrested. The scammers sound very serious, making the person feel like they’re really talking to the police!

Why do people fall for this trick? It’s partly because the police can seem scary if you think you’re in trouble. And when you’re scared, it’s easier to believe what someone is saying. This scam is called “digital arrest” fraud because it makes you think you’re about to be arrested—even though it’s all fake!

Prime Minister Modi has talked about this problem and hopes more people will feel safe telling the police if they’ve been tricked. A lot of people stay quiet because they’re embarrassed or afraid of what others might think. The scammers often target older people who have saved up some money. These are people who might be more trusting and not used to the tricks scammers use.

If you or someone you know gets a scary call like this, remember that it’s okay to ask for help! Reporting it to the real police is important so they can catch these scammers. When people trust the police more, it’s harder for cyber criminals to keep fooling everyone. Staying alert, talking to others, and asking for help if you’re unsure can keep you and your loved ones safe from these scams!
