⏱️Amelia Powell has an energy level that’s hard to match. She leads Verizon Business Group’s global product marketing effort for broadband, especially fixed wireless access (FWA)—no small effort.
She’s a mother of three, an artist and a band manager to an 80’s alternative band – that’s when she’s not sculpting, blowing glass, or arranging a fund-raiser for a friend in need. If you need something done, or inspiration to make things happen, Amelia is your go-to.
🧑🎓 Have you always wanted to be a marketer?
I went to school to become a sculptor, but found I really liked the business side of art and creativity more than making it myself.
🎨 Does your arts background help at Verizon?
It does. I understand how to take criticism and how to connect with audiences differently, and I try to help people from less creative frameworks tap into those tools.
🛜 And now you market broadband connectivity?
The challenge is that many businesses view connectivity as a utility. The connection is where we start, but when we can educate them on all the things we do, like unified communications as a service (UCaaS), managed services, security, etc. We can do much more for them as partners. We are uniquely suited to tailor things to their business needs.

They were on last week’s Up to Speed! Identical triplets with different businesses show how we can help small, medium and large businesses with their needs. It boils down to Simplicity, Availability and Flexibility.
🐉 Tell me about the dragonboats!
They are massive. 20 people sit side by side, and working as a team, you have to paddle hard to get moving. It’s a lot like launching products: it takes a lot of work to get things moving in the right direction. But when you get this huge boat flying ahead of the competition, it’s an amazing feeling.
🎶And the band you manage?
It’s an 80’s cover band called “Melt With You” and we play things from bands like The Pretenders, The Clash and The Cure. We’re lucky to have a loyal following that love to dress like 80’s punks and sell out venues pretty consistently!
